How to restore the varnish on a windcap

Postby CofE_Reader on Sat Mar 13, 2010 11:01 pm

After deafening everyone at the Sennfl workshop with an alto crumhorn, I have now picked up a 3rd hand tenor cornamuse as a slightly quieter alternative. It is one of the EMS kits, built by Richard wood.

Although the windcap is sound, the varnish has suffered somewhat, particularly around the air hole. Can anyone advise the best way to repair that please? Can I safely sand it down and revarnish, say with Behlen violin varnish?

Many thanks

Ray

Oh well. Not to worry. Having now received the instrument, it doesn't actually look as bad as I thought it was.
